A few months ago, Microsoft announced they would end product support and updates for Dynamics GP on September 30, 2029, with security patches continuing until April 30, 2031. Our message to GP customers has always been clear: Microsoft will not take Dynamics GP to the cloud. If you're ready to move, we'll help you. If you have other priorities, we'll keep you informed.
We never sugar-coated the reality that Microsoft was not going to take Dynamics GP into the cloud. Our message was always to be pragmatic with what you spend on Dynamics GP projects. A few days of work would not be an issue and would likely have a fast ROI. However, if you asked us to carry out a six-figure upgrade project, we’d challenge you to think hard about why that budget isn’t going into a new system project rather than a GP upgrade. Especially as all you’ll gain from it is likely support/IT/software compliance for the short term.
Rising Costs: With fewer consultants, rates are increasing. We’re already seeing rates stretch to £1,300 a day, and this trend will continue. Think about the financial strain of higher costs and the impact on your budget. As the demand for experienced GP consultants rises, so do their rates. This means that every project, no matter how small, will come with a higher price tag. The increased costs will strain your budget and reduce the return on investment (ROI) for any GP-related work. Additionally, the financial burden of higher consulting rates will make it more challenging to allocate funds for other critical business initiatives.
3. Reduced Support: Microsoft is cutting resources for Dynamics GP. The once-thriving product team is now minimal, and most development is outsourced. You’ll see fewer meaningful updates and face longer support times. Additionally, you’re paying 19% per annum in Enhancement to Microsoft for them to do not much for your system. Wait 3 years to move and you’ll have paid (wasted?) nearly 60% of your Dynamics GP licence price. Wouldn’t that be better invested in a new system project? Microsoft is also finding ways to avoid supporting you, making it even more challenging to get the help you need. Picture the anxiety of dealing with slow support and unresolved issues.
If you’re not hearing the full story from your Dynamics GP partner, they might be fleecing you for GP projects to line their pockets, with little care for your business. Our recent experience with support for Dynamics GP has been poor, with significant delays in response and unresolved issues. Going forward, you’ll get zero support unless you’re current with service packs, and even then, the GP support team may not have the capacity to resolve issues.
