One-third of companies think they’re ready for GDPR, according to a recent report from Forrester. The unfortunate truth is many of these businesses underestimate the work involved in compliance. The real figure of GDPR preparedness is likely to be much lower in reality. With the May deadline rapidly approaching, now is the time to ignore the scaremongers and do something productive about GDPR. With this in mind, we’ve developed our own GDPR Data Review, a GDPR compliance audit aimed at assessing company data stored within your Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM. So, how does a GDPR data report like this work?
What does the GDPR Data Review involve?
Our review provides an overview of information stored in your company’s Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM. This type of data report highlights data which will be impacted by GDPR, what can be defined as personal data and raises any issues with the way information is recorded, with appropriate action points for GDPR compliance now and in the future.
How can I make sure I don’t miss anything?
Even if data deemed to be in breach of GDPR is associated to one account which hasn’t been changed or used in many years, if it exists in the Dynamics 365 CRM, this data will be flagged through our reviewing process. We can also provide advice on restricting internal access to personal data: your access control settings on Microsoft Dynamics for fields including personal data are unlikely to automatically be GDPR compliant and will need updating in most cases.
What do I have to do as the data handler?
Don’t be afraid to hit ‘delete’. If you can’t give a clear justification for why your business is storing something, especially sensitive personal information on a lead or contact such as marital status, remove this data and stop collecting it. If you choose to keep information like this, you’ll need to take security measures to protect it. While City Dynamics will recommend action points and guidance for GDPR compliance, it is your responsibility to be proactive in making these changes – we cannot delete or change this data for you.
If you’re looking for assistance with GDPR compliance, we can arrange a data report for you with our data security expert who will optimise your data handling procedures.
